Application for Co-option to the Parish Council

We welcome applications from members of the community who would like to contribute to the work of Aymestrey Parish Council.

2. Eligibility to serve as a Parish Councillor

You must meet the legal requirements below. To qualify you must be able to answer YES to both questions.

1. Are you a British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen of a qualifying European Union country?*
2. Are you aged 18 or over?*

3. Your connection with Aymestrey Parish

You must meet at least one of the following four requirements. You must answer YES to at least one question.

1. Are you registered as a local government elector for Aymestrey Parish?*
2. Have you lived in Aymestrey Parish, or within 3 miles of its boundary, for at least 12 months?*
3. Have you occupied, as owner or tenant, land or premises in Aymestrey Parish for at least 12 months?*
4. Have you had your principal or only place of work in Aymestrey Parish for at least 12 months?*

4. Disqualification from serving as a Councillor

You must answer NO to all of the following questions to be eligible to serve as a Parish Councillor.

1. Are you currently subject to a bankruptcy restrictions order?*
2. Within the last five years, have you been convicted of an offence in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man that resulted in a sentence of imprisonment of three months or more, whether suspended or not, without the option of a fine?*
3. Are you disqualified by order of a court from being a member of a local authority?*

6. Training and questions

Training is available and is arranged through the Clerk. It is provided free of charge to Parish Councillors and may take place during evenings or weekends.

Would you be willing to attend relevant training?*

Please Note: You do not need to have previous experience as a Parish Councillor.

I confirm that the information I have provided in this application is accurate and complete to the best of my knowledge. I understand that the Parish Council may need to verify the information provided in order to establish my eligibility for co-option.

How we use your information

  • We use the information you provide to administer and consider your application for co-option to Aymestrey Parish Council.
  • Your application will be received by the Parish Clerk and may be shared with Parish Councillors where necessary as part of the co-option process. It may also be accessed by authorised technical support where required for the administration of the website or form.
  • We do not use your data for marketing.
